Opera Frankfurt Announces Cast Change for ‘Lulu’

By Francisco Salazar

Oper Frankfurt has announced a cast change for its production of Berg’s “Lulu.”

The company said that Vera-Lotte Boecker has withdrawn from the production and will be replaced by Brenda Rae.

Rae took to social media and said, ” Sometimes things fall into place in the most amazing ways. After a disappointing cancellation this coming fall, I got the call to step into a production at a house where a large part of my heart still resides. It’s the honor of my LIFE to be entrusted with the title role of ‘Lulu’ at Oper Frankfurt in a new production by Nadja Loschky, conducted by Thomas Guggeis. ‘Lulu’ is the most challenging, complex, and fulfilling character I have ever encountered, and I can’t wait to continue my exploration of this role! And to top it off, the extraordinary cast is full of old friends from my time as an ensemble member in Frankfurt. I am SO grateful to return to Frankfurt, especially with a role that I’ve been dying to sing again! Come see us!”

Rae has performed the role of “Lulu” to great acclaim at the English National Opera where critics raved and said, “Brenda Rae’s Lulu, tirelessly busy and vocally spot-on, is the enigmatic centre of it all.”

Raw joins a cast that includes Simon Neal, AJ Glueckert, Claudia Mahnke, and Theo Lebow.

“Lulu opens on Nov. 3 and runs through Nov. 28, 2024.
