Opéra National de Paris has canceled the second performance of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” due to the national strike against the French government’s pension reform.

The company announced that it was forced to cancel the performance after the strike notice came into effect. According to the statement, “given the right of employees to declare industrial action up until the scheduled performance time, the Opera was not able to inform the audience earlier.”

The cast for this performance “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” was to include Xabier Anduaga, Lisette Oropesa, Carlo Lepore, Krzysztof Bączyk, Tommaso Barea, Marion Lebègue, and Florian Sempey in the role of Figaro. Carlo Montanaro was signed on to conduct the production by Damiano Michieletto.

They are still set to perform the opera upon its scheduled return on Jan. 17. “Il barbiere di Siviglia” is set to run through Feb. 12.
