Opéra De Paris Cancels ‘Il Pirata’ Due To Strike

By Francisco Salazar

The Opéra de Paris has canceled its premiere performance of Bellini’s “Il Pirata” due to the national strike.

In a statement the company noted, “The Paris Opera apologizes for this cancellation. Given the right of employees to declare industrial action up until the scheduled performance time, the Opera was not able to inform the audience earlier and apologizes for this too.”

As a result, the company will either refund or exchange tickets for future a performance.

The performance was set to star Sondra Radvanovsky, Michael Spyres, and Ludovic Tézier. Riccardo Frizza was also set to conduct.

This is the 25th performance the company cancels since protests broke out on Dec. 5, 2019.

“Il Pirata” is scheduled to be performed on Dec. 19 but the company noted that ticket holders should check for updates the day of the performance.
