Ópera de Oviedo Announces 2023-24 Season

The Ópera de Oviedo has announced its 2023-24 season.

The season will open with a production of Massenet’s “Manon” with Emilio Sagi conducting. The production will celebrate Victoria de los Angeles’ centennial. The program will star Sabina Puértolas, Celso Albelo, Roberto Scandiuzzi, Manel Esteve, Ana Nebot, and Moisés Marín.

Performance Dates: September 2023

In October the company will present Puccini’s “Il trittico” featuring “Il tabarro,” “Suor Angelica,” and ” “Gianni Schicchi.” José Miguel Pérez-Sierra conducts the production by Paul-Émile Fourny. José Antonio López, Azer Zada, Beatriz Díaz, Ana Ibarra, and Josep Fadó star.

Performance Dates: October 2023

The season continues with a double bill of Granado’s “Goyescas” and Manuel de Falla’s “El retablo de Maese Pedro.”Álvaro Albiach conducts the production by Paco López. “Goyescas” will star Alejandro Roy, Mónica Conesa, Cristina Faus, and Damián del Castillo.

Performance Dates: November 2023

In December Verdi’s La Traviata will return in a co-producción with the Festival Internacional de Peralada. Paco Azorín directs the production which will star Ekaterina Bakanova, Leonardo Sánchez, and Juan Jesús Rodríguez. The alternate cast will include Mar Morán (Violetta Valery), Alejandro del Cerro (Alfredo Germont) y Fernando Campero (Giorgio Germont).

Performance Dates: December 2023

Wagner’s “Lohengrin” will open the 2024 year and close the season. Samuel Sakker, Simon Neal, Miren Urbieta-Vega, Elena Zhidkova, and Insung Sim lead the production. Christoph Gedschold conducts the production by Guillermo Amaya.
