The Opéra de Montréal is set to present a free webcast of “Hansel and Gretel” throughout the holiday season.

The performance dates from 2014 when the opera was presented by the Atelier Lyrique at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier at the Place des Arts. The famed holiday opera was staged by Hugo Bélanger and starred mezzo-soprano Emma Char and soprano Frédérique Drolet in the roles of Hansel and Gretel, respectively.

The Atelier Lyrique’s production also featured musicians of the Orchestre Métropolitain, conducted by Alain Trudel.

“We are especially eager to provide a moment of magic for families, knowing that the holiday season will be different this year,” Patrick Corrigan, General Director of the Opéra de Montréal stated in a press release. “This past year, the pandemic has compelled us to get more creative and innovative in order to offer content and activities that appeal to one and all. Combining circus arts, opera, and theatre, the opera ‘Hansel and Gretel’ is certainly an ideal work for the holiday season.”

The showcase will be available starting on Dec. 17, 2020. Audiences can enjoy repeat viewings until Jan. 17, 2021.
