The Opéra de Montréal is set to present the Canadian premiere of George Benjamin’s “Written on Skin” starting on Jan. 25, 2020.

The opera, which will run for a total of four performances, will star Magali Simard-Galdès, Daniel Okulitch, Luigi Schifano, Florence Bourget, and Jean-Michel Richet. It will be conducted by Nicole Paiement with Alain Gauthier conducting the production. In sum, the cast will feature four Canadian singers with one Italian artist; the production team will be comprised of Canadians.

“It’s a real coup for the Opéra de Montréal to be able to present this first Canadian production of “Written on Skin,” an opera composed in the last decade that we believe will still be performed in the world’s greatest opera houses one hundred years from now,” stated Patrick Corrigan, General Director of the Opéra de Montréal, in a press release. “And it’s all the more significant for us to allow all of these talented Canadian artists to make their debuts in this international-calibre work.”

There will be additional performances on Jan. 28, 30 and Feb. 2, 2020, all of them at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, Place des Arts.
