Opera de Lyon Announces ‘Femmes Libres?” Festival

By Francisco Salazar

The Opera de Lyon has announced that it will move forward with the “Femmes Libres?” festival.

However, the company revealed that the festival, which runs between March 22 and 26, will take place entirely online.

In a press release, the Opera de Lyon stated that the season will “turn a spotlight on some iconic women, inviting the audience to discover their fate as victims, witnesses, or even as avengers, with stories that haunt our imaginations and even our daily lives. This trilogy examines the relationships between men and women – their light and dark sides, their enigmas and secrets.”

For the festival, two productions will be presented for free. The works include “Duke Bluebeard’s Castle” and “Ariane et Barbe-bleue.” The festival will also include a number of lectures and conferences about the works.
