Opera Columbus & Columbus Symphony to Co-Present ‘Rigoletto’

By Logan Martell

On March 31, 2023, Opera Columbus and the Columbus Symphony will co-present Verdi’s “Rigoletto.”

Conductor Rossen Milanov and director Eve Summer lead a cast comprised of Hyung Yun in the title role, David Blalock as the Duke, Aubry Ballaro as Gilda, Eric McKeever as Monterone, Cody Muller as Sparafucile, Hilary Ginther as Maddalena, and more.

The collaboration comes as part of the mutual passion for grand opera and staging held by the companies. Thanks to the support of the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts, the production will be held at the Ohio Theatre, which will allow for a larger audience capacity and orchestra pit.

“We have a fantastic partner in Rossen, Walshaw, and the Columbus Symphony,” said Julia Noulin-Mérat, Opera Columbus’ General Director and CEO, in an official press statement. “Because of this, we’re really able to expand the scale of the work here – everything is bigger, which is such a thrilling way to work. The sets and costumes are more ornate, we’re able to bring in singers from The Metropolitan Opera, even the theatre itself is bigger.”

The production will run for two performances on March 31 and April 1.
