Opera Colorado & Colorado Arts Centers to Require Proof of Vaccination

By Francisco Salazar

Performing arts centers in Colorado have announced new regulations effective Oct.  1, 2021 for all audience members.

The new regulations, which will be implemented by Colorado Ballet, Colorado Symphony, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, and Opera Colorado, will require COVID-19 vaccinations and face coverings for indoor, public performances.

The new policy states that all patrons 12+ must be fully vaccinated before attending performances and children under the age of 12 must instead provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test. All audience members ages two and over must wear masks unless actively enjoying refreshments in designated areas.

In a statement Opera Colorado General Artistic Director Greg Carpenter said, “We are thrilled to be presenting a full season of grand opera at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, beginning this November after a twenty-month interruption. Our priority continues to be creating the safest possible environment for our patrons and the safest working conditions for our staff and everyone involved in our productions. We look forward to welcoming audiences back for a season of opera worth waiting for.”

The Colorado venues are the latest in the United States to implement COVID-19 proof of Vaccination following the LA Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Metropolitan Opera, and San Francisco Opera.
