Opera Bern Names Alevtina Ioffe Chief Conductor

Oper Bern has announced that Russian conductor Alevtina Ioffe will be the new Chief Conductor starting in the summer of 2025. She will succeed Nicholas Carter.

The Board of Foundation of Bühnen Bern announced the news and noted that Ioffe “is one of the most exciting conductors of her generation and we are very happy to welcome her to Bern soon!”

Ioffe is an internationally well-known conductor who has conducted in Europe and the USA. In Switzerland, she has worked with the Bern Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

She has also conducted the State Chapel Weimar, the Komische Berlin Oper, and Staatsoper Stuttgart.

In addition to the new Chief Conductor, the Board announced that it has extended the contracts of Intendant Florian Scholz as well as acting director Roger Vontobel, opera director Rainer Karlitschek, and dance director Isabelle Bischof for another four years until summer 2029.
