Opera Australia has announced that Chorus Master Anthony Hunt will be leaving the Company at the end of the current Melbourne season to return to his hometown of Adelaide with his family.

During his time with the company Hunt oversaw the OA chorus for six years, managing rehearsals and guiding the chorus through more than 30 mainstage productions, perfecting their harmony, repertoire, and language skills.

Hunt said in a press release, “It’s been an absolute privilege and joy to be surrounded by extraordinary voices every day. They are the best of the best, and it’s been wonderful to be part of that.”

Meanwhile OA’s Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini noted, “It is no small feat to corral over 40 performers to such a consistently high standard. Anthony has proven to be an excellent Chorus Master during his tenure. We are sad to see him go, and we wish him and his family all the best in the future.”

Opera Australia announced that Paul Fitzsimon will take over as chorus master and his first production as the newly appoint chorus master will be “La Bohème” opening on New Year’s Eve.
