Opera Australia to Present Melbourne Season at Regent Theatre

By Francisco Salazar

Opera Australia has announced that its upcoming Melbourne opera season will be held at the Regent Theatre.

The company said that the operas will run in “stagione” for this season, meaning the same production will be performed for multiple consecutive performance dates before the next production begins. This approach will be different from how it usually presents operas in “repertory’ programming,” where productions alternate each night.

The residency will open with Elijah Moshinsky’s production of “ The Barber of Seville”  followed by a new ”Carmen,” directed by Melbourne Theatre Company’s Anne-Louise Sarks.

The season’s grand finale will see the Melbourne premiere of “Orpheus & Eurydice.” The upcoming Regent Theatre residency will also include a one-night-only performance of  “Opera Up Late.”
