Opera Australia Announces Support Package for Employees

By David Salazar

Opera Australia has announced an employee package for the majority of its staff.

Per Limelight Magazine, the organization will provide a support package from March 30 through the end of May that allows them to access 80 percent of their regular salary based on a 38-hour work week.

“For many this is a the most challenging time of their lives, and certainly for the opera of Opera Australia. Their commitment, tireless efforts, passion, and unique skills define the Company. We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support of all our stakeholders and the arts community,” said Opera Australia Chairman David Mortimer.

Opera Australia canceled the remainder of its performances in the 2020-21 season on March 15 in an attempt to contain the spread of COVID-19. The resulting loss of revenue has, per some reports, left the company compromised financially and it might need to sell off major assets to remain viable economically into the future.
