Opera Atelier To Showcase ‘Idomeneo’ With Measha Brueggergosman

By David Salazar

Opera Atelier is set to showcase its production of “Idomeneo” starting on April 4 and running through April 13.

The production will feature soprano Measha Brueggergosman as Elettra in her return to Toronto after 10 years. She will be joined by Colin Ainsworth in the title role and Wallis Giunta as Idamante. Meghan Lindsey takes on the role of Ilia while Douglas Williams appears as Neptune.

“’Idomeneo demands a unique juxtaposition of an extremely formal dramatic and musical structure coupled with an emotional intensity that foreshadows the Romantic movement,” says Opera Atelier Founding Co-Artistic Director Marshall Pynkoski stated in a press release.

“In Opera Atelier’s production, every element – superbly rendered music, fully integrated ballet, and historically informed design – combine to tell this timeless story with precision and clarity.”

The production features set designs by Gerard Gauci as well as lighting design by Jennifer Lennon and Michelle Ramsay. Conductor David Fallis will lead the music proceedings.
