Oper Leipzig Shuts Down Due To COVID-19 Pandemic Emergency

The Oper Leipzig has announced the cancellation of all performances between Nov. 22 and Dec. 12, 2021.

Per the latest order of the Government of Saxony, all theaters and opera houses must remain closed until Dec. 12, 2021. The opera house did manage to complete its run of performing David Pountney’s production of Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” on Nov. 21, 2021.

The opera will star Elisabet Strid, Kathrin Göring, James Rutherford, Randall Jakobsh, Sven Hjörleifsson, Marek Reichert, Magnus Vigilius, Mathias Hausmann, Tobias Schabel, Patrick Vogel, Alvaro Zambrano, Paul Kaufmann, Franz Xaver Schlecht, Roman Astakhov, Jean-Baptiste Mouret, Matthias Stier, and Sejong Chang. Ulf Schirmer conducts.

The current seven-day incidence in Saxony stands at 793.7, while the seven-day incidence in Leipzig stands at 564.9.
