Oper Leipzig Announces Reopening

By Francisco Salazar

Oper Leipzig has announced it will reopen on Jan. 22.

The company noted that it will reopen to the public in accordance with the latest Saxonian pandemic regulations and will offer 500 seats to a vaccinated plus boosted or tested audience.

The news comes after the Semperoper Dresden reopened its house on Jan. 16, 2022.

Oper Leipzig has been closed since November due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19 with Intendant and General Music Director of the Oper Leipzig Ulf Schirmer noting, “We have always known that a worsening corona situation requires further measures and are now taking these into account. The focus of all our considerations is primarily the safety and care for our audience and for all employees.”

The company will reopen “Alice in Wonderland” and “Rienzi.”
