
Oper Graz Announces Cast Change for ‘Tosca’
By Francisco SalazarOper Graz has announced a cast change for its “Tosca” performance on August 24.
The company announced that the Hawaiian baritone Jordan Shanahan will sing Scarpia at the Kasematten Graz, replacing Sir Bryn Terfel who is indisposed. The baritone will join Kristine Opolais and Jonas Kaufmann with conductor Marcus Merkel leading the Grazer Philharmoniker.
Shanahan made his debut at Oper Graz in 2019 as Scarpia in “Tosca” and is set to return this season “La Forza del Destino.” He has also performed at the Oper Frankfurt, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Royal Opera House, and Deutche Oper Berlin.
The semi-staged production opened on August 22 with Terfel also canceling. Ludovic Tézier replaced the bass-baritone during the premiere, which was broadcast on Orf. Terfel is set to return for the final performance on August 25.
