Odyssey Opera and the Boston Modern Opera Project have unveiled the full cast for their production of “X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X.”

The Anthony Davis and Thulani Davis opera, which will be performed at The Strand, a few blocks away from Malcolm X’s childhood home” will be presented as part of the company’s five-part series “As Told By: History, Race, and Justice on the Opera Stage.”

Audiences will see Davóne Tines in the title role with Ronnita Miller as Ella, Whitney Morrison as Louise / Betty, Joshua Conyers as Reginald, and Victor Roberston as Elijah-Street. Gil Rose conducts.

“It’s a thrill to present X, undoubtedly one of the great American operas of the 20th century. There is no better way to celebrate contemporary Black creativity in Boston and nationally than with the resurrection of a forgotten work composed, written, and performed by Black artists about Black activist and legend Malcolm X, just blocks away from his home,” Rose said in an official press statement.

The opera opens on June 17, 2022.
