Obituary: Spanish Tenor Miguel Sierra Dies At 90

Platea Magazine announced that the Spanish tenor died on Jan. 7.
Sierra began his studies in Madrid under Luis Arnedillo and Eladio Chao and later studied in Mián.
He went on to make his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona in November 1959 in “La Dolores.” A year later he made his Teatro de la Zarzuela debut and from there he would establish himself as one of Spain’s leading tenors and a major interpreter of the Zarzuela.
Sierra went on to make a highly acclaimed recording of “Luisa Fernanda” as well as recordings of “Alma de Dios,” “La bruja,” “El caserío,” “Gigantes y cabezudos” and “La Gran Vía.” He also won the Premio Nacional de Teatro.
Sierra left the stage to take care of his sick wife. He was the uncle of Conductor José Miguel Pérez-Sierra and pianist Lourdes Pérez-Sierra, director of the Operastudio of the Universidad de Alcalá,
