Obituary: Set & Costume Designer William Orlandi Dies

The Gran Teatre del Liceu announced the news stating, “With deep sadness today the Liceu team joins the expressions of condolence for the death of set designer and costume designer William Orlandi.”
Born in Italy, Orlandi graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan and went on to work at many of the major opera houses in the world including the Teatro alla Scala, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Opera Australia, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro Colón, and Statsoper Berlin, among others. He also worked in Macerata, Paris, Tokyo, Zurich and Pesaro.
Orlandi worked on numerous operas including “Don Carlo,” which he did for his Liceu debut during the 1981-82 season. Other operas included “Il trovatore,” “Aida,” “Falstaff,” “Otello,” “Roméo et Juliette,” “Faust,” “Werther,” “Manon,” “Thérèse,” “Pique Dame,” “Norma,” “La straniera”Tosca,” “Carmen,” “Cavalleria rusticana,” and “Lakme,” among others.
