The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced the death of Enric Martínez Aragó.

Born in Cullera, Martínez Aragó joined the Manresa center as a horn teacher in October 1997 where he went on to work for more than 24 years. He would go to Barcelona where he became the Liceu orchestra’s horn section leader.

In a statement about the musician’s death Carme Botifoll, director of the Manresa Municipal Conservatory of Music said, “We will miss him very much. Everyone, both teachers and students. Enric was highly regarded, a great classmate, and a very active teacher. It is a very hard time, of mourning. We are in shock.”

The Liceu also paid tribute to Martínez noting, “The whole Liceu family is still dismayed by the sudden death of our colleague Enric Martínez, a member of the Orchestra. In these moments of sadness, the commotion strikes all members who are part of the Theater. RIP.”
