Obituary: Costume Designer María Araujo Dies At 70 of Coronavirus

Recognized costume designer María Araujo has died at the age of 70 due to Coronavirus complications.

Born in 1950 in Gran Canaria de La Aldea de San Nicolás, she went on to work with renown Spanish directors Mario Gas, Josep Maria Pou, Xavier Albertí, Josep Maria Mestres, and Natalia Menéndez. Araujo also worked on a number of television shows and films.

While a recognized figure for her work on such plays as “El lindo Don Diego,” “Richard III,” and “Sweeney Todd,” she went on to work at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Teatro del Liceu.

For the Liceu she directed “Jo, Dalí” and “La voix humaine/Una voce in off.” For the Teatro del la Zarzuela she worked on “María Moliner” and “La Villana.”

She went on to receive a number of awards including the Barcelona Critic four times and the Max award.
