North Carolina Opera has announced that it has received $250,000 commitment from NCO Board member and former Board President C. Thomas Kunz.

The aim of the gift is to allow the company to present opera in the Triangle and explore its audience development initiatives.

“We are extremely touched by and grateful for the generous, heartfelt and meaningful support from Tom Kunz, which comes at a critical moment for our company,” said NC Opera General Director Eric Mitchko in a press release. “I cannot think of anyone in our community who has demonstrated such care and support for NC Opera. Tom’s support will not only be transformative for the future of the company, it will also be a powerful affirmation of the artistic excellence and impact of the important work NC Opera strives to produce.”

Kunz has been a part of the company since 2012 and was the Board President between 2014 and 2018. He and his wife Rosemarie Sweeney have sponsored seven productions for North Carolina Opera over the years. Moreover, Kunz is the founder of the Croasdaile Opera and Arts Guild and has served the boards of the Metropolitan Opera and the Triangle Wagner Society.
