The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced the replacement of Mongolian baritone Amartuvshin Enkhbat in the role of Scarpia for a concert performance of Puccini’s “Tosca” on Oct. 23, 2020.

Baritone Noel Bouley will perform in his stead. Bouley will join a cast that includes Fabio Sartori in the role of Mario Cavaradossi, and Malin Byström in the title role. The cast will be rounded out by Byung Gil Kim, Padraic Rowan, Jörg Schörner, Patrick Guetti, and Tyler Zimmerman. Nicholas Milton will conduct.

This is the second replacement for the role, as Enkhbat previously stepped in for Roman Burdenko. The replacement comes as the consequence of a COVID-19 outbreak at the Teatro alla Scala, which forced an immediate quarantine for the entire cast of Verdi’s “Aida,” including Enkhbat who was slated to perform the role of Amonasro.

Bouley is scheduled to perform the role of Peter in Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in December 2020, before taking on the role of Giorgio Germont in Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Theater Basel in February 2021.
