Opera San José is set to return to the stage with “Dido and Aeneas.”

The opera, which marks the first in-person performance that the company showcases in over one year, will take place starting on Nov. 13 at the California Theatre in downtown San José. The run will last through Nov. 28.

Audiences will see mezzo-soprano in the role of Nikola Printz with baritone Efraín Solís as Aeneas. Maya Kherani will be Belinda while bass-baritone Nathan Stark will interpret the role of the Sorcerer. Rounding out the cast will be dancers from San José Dance Theatre.

The opera will be conducted by Joseph Marcheso with Elkhanah Pulitzer directing.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing back live opera to the California Theatre stage. After so many months of giving us stunning, intimate performances for the cameras, it’s high time that these incredible artists received the standing ovation that they have long deserved. I hope you’ll join us for their long-awaited return to what they love doing most – performing live, for you, our community,” said General Director Khori Dastoor in a press statement.

Audiences will be required to show proof of full vaccination and a valid photo ID in order to attend the performance. Moreover, attendees will be required to wear masks at all times during the performances.
