Opera San José is set to return to live performances with Purcell’s masterpiece, “Dido and Aeneas.”

The opera will be performed at the historic California Theatre with Joseph Marcheso conducting and Elkhanah Pulitzer directing the new production. Michael Pappalardo will choreograph, while mezzo-soprano Nikola Printz will sing Dido and baritone Efraín Solís will take on the role of Aeneas.

Rounding out the cast will be soprano Maya Kherani as Belinda, bass-baritone Nathan Stark as The Sorcerer, and dancers from San Jose Dance Theatre.

The production is set to open on Nov. 13 and will be performed six times. The final performance will be performed on Nov. 28, 2021.

The production comes following the streaming of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Mozart and Salieri” with Sidney Outlaw and Simon Barrad.
