Nice Philharmonic Appoints New Principal Conductor

The Nice Philharmonic Orchestra has appointed Lionel Bringuier as Principal Conductor.

The announcement was made by Christian Estrosi, President of the Metropolis of Nice Côte d’Azur, Delegate President of the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, and Bertrand Rossi, General Director of the Nice Côte-d’Azur Opera.

The conductor will succeed Daniele Callegari, for the seasons 2024 and 2024-25, who has been in this position since September 2021.

In a statement Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Metropolis of Nice Côte d’Azur, Delegate President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Ahzur Region said, “I no longer count the number of performances Lionel Bringuier has shared alongside the musicians of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, as an associated artist since 2019, offering to the audience great musical moments. I thank him for his loyalty and for sharing his passion with our Orchestra with the same enthusiasm for years. Having conducted the best orchestras around the world, collaborating with internationally renowned soloists, it is a pride to have a world-renowned virtuoso as Principal of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra. Alongside our excellent musicians, this promises beautiful shows rich in emotion to begin with the concert on Saturday 9 December under his direction highlighting 3 musical geniuses: Moussorgsky, Stravinsky, and Ravel. I join Bertrand Rossi in warmly thanking Daniele Callegari for his work done with passion and sensitivity with the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra. ”

Bringuier has conducted such organizations as the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra and the Festival Aix-en-Provence.

He has been appointed a Knight of the National Order of Merit by the French Government and received the Gold Medal unanimously with the congratulations of the jury at the Prince Rainier III Academy of Monaco as well as the Crystal Eagle and the Gold Medal of the City of Nice.
