New York Opera Fest 2017: Get Ready for Opera On Tap At Freddy’s Bar and Backroom

By David Salazar

This Thursday, May 11, 2017, Opera on Tap will present its iconic showcase at Freddy’s Bar and Backroom as part of the New York Opera Fest 2017.

The performance, which starts at 9 p.m. EDT, is a concert intended for a more casual crowd. The theme, according to the company’s website, is to “raise a glass to all of the operatic characters making lemon meringue pie out of the lemons life deals them.”

“Have a Stella with your Strauss! How about Bellini and a Bud! Straight from the tap, Freddy’s Bar and the Divas of Opera on Tap bring you funny, irreverent, immersive operatic concerts in a casual setting. We promise a raucous night of opera outside-the-box. Raise a glass with the premiere dive-bar opera company of New York and beyond!” says the company’s promotional announcement for the performance.

The company is in the midst of a massive summer as it recently debuted “The Parksville Murders, Episode 1,” a serial horror opera created using Virtual Reality technology. The work premiered at the NYC Indie Film Festival. The company will also feature its New Brew showcase in early June before working with children at Harlem PS 129 on “The Elixir of Live.”
