New York Festival of Song Announces 2023-24 Season

The New York Festival of Songs has announced the lineup for the 2023-24 season.

“100 Years of Broadway Love” is presented by soprano Kerrigan Bigelow, mezzo-soprano Sophia Baete, and baritone Shavon Lloyd, with Steven Blier as pianist following a weeklong residency in Orient, NY.

Performance Dates: August 21-27, 2023

Kicking off its 36th season mainstage season is curators and co-pianists Steven Blier and Peter Dugan’s “Perennials: songs for every season.” The program of works by Schubert, Strauss, Toldrà, Sondheim, Carole King, and more will take place at Merkin Hall at Kaufman Music Center.

Performance Date: September 28, 2023

New York Festival of Songs series “Next Festival” will take place at the Rubin Museum of Art. Nathaniel LaNasa curated the performances. The first performance will feature Paulina Swierczek, Robin Steitz, Gregory Feldman, and Nathaniel LaNasa as they take on music by Arlene Elizabeth Sierra, Nkeiru Okoye, Andrew Cheung, Gity Razaz, Iain Bell, and Hilary Purrington. The second showcase stars Molly Joyce, Dicky Dutton, and Lucy Dhegrae.

Performance Dates: October 15 & Nov. 19, 2023

The Mainstage season continues with “Gracias a la vida.” Ecuadorian tenor César Andrés Parreño and Bolivian soprano Shelén Hughes, with Steven Blier as pianist and host offer a program of South American songs from Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile.

Performance Date: December 5, 2023

“A Goyishe Christmas To You!” features soprano Lauren Worsham, mezzo-sopranos Donna Breitzer and Rebecca Jo Loeb, tenor Alex Mansoori, and Cantor Joshua Breitzer with Steven Blier as pianist and host, alongside clarinetist Alan R. Kay. The location for the annual event is to be announced.

Performance Date: December 12, 2023

First up in the new year is the annual “NYFOS@Juilliard” concert in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater. The program, “Ned at 100” is a tribute to the late American composer Ned Rorem, told through his music and his diaries, as well as songs by his inner circle of composer-friends including Leonard Bernstein, Francis Poulenc, Virgil Thompson, and Aaron Copland.

Performance Date: January 18, 2024

“All Together Now” is a collaboration of Young Concert Artists featuring tenor Daniel McGrew, mezzo-sopranos Megan Moore and Erin Wagner, bass-baritone Joseph Parrish, and soprano/pianist Chelsea Guo. The program travels through six centuries of vocal ensembles, from the Renaissance to present day with music by Mozart, Chabrier, Libby Larsen, the Bobs, and others.

Performance Date: February 21, 2024

Following a weeklong residency at Caramoor Eros and Co. will give a concert featuring songs by Saint-Saëns, Granados, Serge Gainsbourg, and Sondheim, to name a few. The cast features Caramoor’s 2024 Schwab Vocal Rising Stars with Steven Blier and Bénédicte Jourdois at the piano.
