New York City Opera To Present Gallegan Opera

By Francisco Salazar

The New York City Opera is set to present “O Arame” in a future season.

In an article by Platea Magazine, the Spanish magazine noted that the Gallegan opera, which made its world premiere in 2008, is set to appear with the New York City Opera in either the 2019-20 season or the 2020-21 season as part the Opera en Español series. However, no dates are confirmed.

The work by composer Juan Durán made its world premiere at the Teatro Colón in La Coruna and became the first Gallegan opera in 80 years to be performed at the theater.

The New York City Opera is set to present “Dear Erich” in January followed by the world premiere of “Stonewall” in June. The company will also present “As One” in May.

The company opened its 2018-19 season with “María de Buenos Aires” starring Catalina Cuervo and received rave reviews with OperaWire noting it was an “Enjoyable Showcase.”
