New Opera West Announces 2022 Fright Festival

By David Salazar

New Opera West is set to present “Fright Festival” on Oct. 28, 2022.

The event, which will take place at Mimoda Studio in Los Angeles, California, will feature three mini-operas plus food and drinks.

First up will be Timothy Peterson and Sara Fetherolf’s “Séance,” an opera about a 20th century dinner party during which a man invites his sister and her husband to do a ritual to call on the dead.

That will be followed by “The Barrens,” a work by Ambert Vistein and Rebecca Hart. The opera will focus on New Jersey’s Devil and its legend, which dates back to 1735. It tells the tale of Mrs. Leeds and her 13th baby, which kills her after she utters a curse.

Filling out the trio of operas is “Having Guests for Dinner” by Nick Bentz and Robert Feng. It tells the story of Marcus and Laura, a couple invited to dinner at a friend of a friend’s house. Their friends never arrive and the couple finds themselves encountering a strange host named Chris.
