New Opera Film of Handel’s ‘Admeto’ Makes Premiere

Opera Essentia and Zen Violence Films have released a new opera film of Händel’s “Admeto.”

The film stars Hans Tashjian, Jeffrey Mandelbaum, Kristin Renee Young, Nicole Besa, and Melisa Bonetti. The cast also includes a Baroque orchestra playing on period instruments. “Admeto” was filmed at the Campos Community Garden in New York City during a live performance in May 2024.

Mandelbaum served as Artistic Director, along with Rod Gomez who took on the role of Co-Stage Director and Project Manager. “Admeto” was filmed and edited by H. Paul Moon of Zen Violence Films. Additional cameras were run by Kyabell Glass, Erik Ryding, Robert Abrams, and Gabriel Tarrow. Marty Jeiven is the Executive Producer.

Opera Essentia and Zen Violence Films have collaborated on other opera films including Handel’s “Imeneo,” and “Orlando.” Moon is also responsible for opera-related films such as “Samuel Barber: Absolute Beauty,” a feature-length documentary that premiered on PBS, as well as “The Passion of Scrooge,” which was the inaugural title of “Opera Philadelphia Channel Presents” in 2022.
