By David Salazar

New Music USA has announced that Joe Walker is stepping down from his position of Chair of thee Board of Directors.

In his stead, the organization has Juan Pablo Contreras and Anne-Marie Spataru as Co-Chairs, effective July 1, 2025. Both have served on the board since 2021.

“I am truly honored to serve as New Music USA’s Co-Chair with Anne-Marie Spataru. As a composer and educator, I am very passionate about advocating for artists and helping them connect to the resources they need to create meaningful and sustainable careers. Being selected as a New Music USA ‘Amplifying Voices’ grantee in 2020 was a transformative experience that inspired me to join the organization and support my fellow musicians. As Co-Chair, I look forward to standing by our community every step of the way,” said Contreras per an official announcement made by the organization.

“I look forward to beginning my Co-Chair service during this transitional period for New Music USA,” added Sparatu. “The strength of this organization lies in its deep commitment to supporting new music in all its forms and facilitating the kind of music discovery that draws me – and other donors – to this unique organization. The demand for New Music USA’s work is greater than ever, and I look forward to working with Juan Pablo Contreras and the rest of the New Music USA team to continue to deepen our impact across the United States.”

New Music USA has commenced a search for a new President & CEO following the announcement of the departure of Vanessa Reed earlier this year.
