The New England Conservatory has announced a slew of programs that it will present via its streaming platform throughout the month of December. For the purposes of this article, our focus will be on vocal and operatic showcases. All the showcases can be viewed on the institution’s official website.

First up will be a Lieberabend entitled “Forbidden Songs: Jewish Voices Uncensored.” The program will include music by Kreisler, Rosner, von Zemlinsky, Haas, Weill, Eisler, Ullmann, and Shostakovich as performed by a number of artists including Elaine Daiber, Ana Mora, Samuel Rosner, Michaela Kelly, Andrew Stack, Theodora Nestrova, Corey Gaudreau, and Angela Yam, among many others.

“Beethoven’s World” will feature some of the composer’s most renowned chamber works as well as several Lieder based on texts by von Goethe, featuring soprano Laura Choi Stuart.

The NEC Chamber Singers will perform music by Black composers including Ysaye M. Barnwell, R. Nathaniel Dett, Jens Ibsen, B.E. Boykin, Undine Smith Moore, and José Mauricio Nunes Garcia. Among the soloists in the performance are Edward Ferran, Jonathan Lawlor, Samantha Fox, Madeleine Wiegers, and Maxwell Herman.

“Lieberabend: A Heine Lieberabend” will feature music by Wolf and Schumann as performed by countertenor Lucas Ludwig Cora and pianist Hanzheng Li.

The NEC Concert Choir will perform music by Florence Price, Larry Nickel, Pärt Uusberg, Brahms, and Caroline Shaw, among others.

Streaming Date: Dec. 18, 2020

The NEC Prepatory School National Youth Chorale will perform under conductor Erica J. Washburn. The performance, which will also feature pianist Valerie Becker, includes music by Hiller, Kvetenadze, Carrillo, and Quartel.

Streaming Date: Dec. 21, 2020

Finally, the organization will showcase a Holiday Chorus Concert featuring several holiday favorites.
