The New England Conservatory (NEC) was named as one of the 24th annual Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts by Women’s Edge and The Boston Globe.

This marks the second time that NEC has been recognized, coming in at number 60 this year. The 100 honorees generated over $124 billion in total revenue during 2023, demonstrating that women leaders continue to be key drivers of the state’s economy. Under the leadership of President Andrea Kalyn, NEC’s the first female president, women comprise 83 percent of NEC’s management team, with women representing 48 percent of the staff and 50 percent of its board.

Kalyn said in a press release, “We are committed to cultivating an environment that celebrates creativity, excellence, and impact. Our students graduate not only with outstanding artistic skills, but as collaborative, insightful leaders. They leave NEC with a broadened perspective on how music and musicians can have transformational impact in communities and the world.”

The Women’s Edge is a Boston-based nonprofit organization devoted to advancing women in leadership positions. The organization created the Top 100 Women-Led Businesses list through a nomination process and reviewed both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. This is the 12th year that the list was created in collaboration with The Boston Globe. The full list will be published in the Globe Magazine’s Women & Power issue on Nov. 1 and in print on Nov. 3.
