New Camerata Opera to Present ‘Barnum’s Bird’ At Poisson Rouge

By David Salazar

New Camerata Opera is set to present Libby Larsen and Bridget Carpenter’s “Barnum’s Bird” at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City this May.

The production, which is to take the stage on May 7, 8, 14, and 15, will feature Erik Bagger, Victor Khododad, and Samina Aslam with Nell Flanders leading performers from The Muse. The production will be directed by Jennifer Williams.

“My team and I are building the world of P.T. Barnum and Jenny Lind that brings immersive theater to the next level,” Williams stated in a press release. “We are reimagining every aspect of the audience’s experience, from the moment they approach the theater…. Barnum’s world was a sensory overload, and the production reimagines how opera and theater can engage the senses.”

“Barnum’s Bird” had its world premiere in 2001 and tells the story of famed soprano Jenny Lind and her American tour with P.T. Barnum in 1850.
