The National Opera and Ballet Theater Constanta in Romania will honor Romanian opera star Virginia Zeani during a performance of “Les Contes d’Hoffmann.”
Zeani was a legendary artist from Romania who performed worldwide. She performed 69 roles over the course of her career and once she left the stage, she was devoted to teaching in her later life. She passed away on March 20, 2023 at the age of 97.
“There have been discussions with Constanta for years. This time, everything fell into place perfectly. To conduct Hoffmann was first and foremost. It’s also a full circle moment for me. I studied with Dumitru Goia at the Universitatea Națională de Muzică. It’s been over a decade since I conducted La Traviata in Bucharest. So Romania holds a special place in my heart and this return is long overdue,” said Albanian-American conductor David William Spiro, per an official press release.
The performance will take place on May 24, 2025.
