National Children’s Chorus Set for Carnegie Hall Solo Debut

By David Salazar

The National Children’s Chorus has announced two major performances for this May.

First up, the ensemble will present “Voices of Action, Creating a World of Belonging” for its solo debut concert at Carnegie’s Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage on May 6, 2023. The group, which features singers between ages 10-18, will perform music from numerous cultures and countries, including the world premieres of works by Gaayatri Kaundinya and Carlos Cordero. Artistic Director Luke McEndarfer and Associate Artistic Director Dr. Pamela Blackstone conduct the concert.

“Every child deserves music in their life,” McEndarfer said in an official press statement. “The May 6th concert is a reminder of what can happen when young people are nourished and encouraged to use their voices for the greater good. At the NCC, we give students the training and support they need to fully develop and express their talents. Through performances on historic stages like Carnegie, they share their exceptional musical artistry with the world and further our mission to reach and inspire children globally.”

Then on May 9, the National Children’s Chorus will present “All You Need Is Love,” a benefit gala that will benefit the organization’s scholarship fund.

Other upcoming performances include a concert in London alongside VOCE8, as well as its third Vail Opera Camp in August, where students will perform “The Tinker of Tivoli.”
