By David Salazar

Music of Remembrance will end its 22nd season with music by Jake Heggie.

The concert, set for May 17, 2020 at Seattle’s Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall, will feature a double bill of rare works by the composer and librettist Gene Scheer.

Up first on the program will be “Intonations: Songs from the Violins of Hope,” which will be making its Pacific Northwest premiere. The piece is inspired by a rare collection of Holocaust string instruments that belonged to Jews during the Holocaust. The piece will be performed by violinist Mikhail Shmidt and mezzo-soprano Laura Krumm along with Music of Remembrance’s string quartet.

The second piece on the program will be “For a Look or a Touch,” the first musical work to explore the Nazi persecution of homosexuals, the production features baritone Jarrett Ott as Manfred Lewin and actor Curt Branom as Gad Beck. It will be directed by Erich Parce.
