Munich Philharmonic Announces New Intendant

The Munich Philharmonic has named Florian Wiegand the new intendant of the orchestra.

The city council announced the news on July 3, 2024.

Wiegand, who is the current concert director of the Salzburg Festival, will begin his new position in fall 2024 and in September 2025, he will officially assume his position as the Intendant.

Throughout his career, Wiegand has also worked with the Konzerthaus Dortmund and founded a choir academy. In 2005, he took over the management of the artistic operations office and concert planning. He is also a jury member for the Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award at the Salzburg Festival and has been teaching regularly in the Executive Master in Arts Administration course at the University of Zurich since 2019.
