Moores Opera Center Announces 2025-26 Season

The Moores Opera Center, part of the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston’s Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts, has announced its 2025-26 season.

The lineup will include three productions that explore powerful themes of love, loss and redemption.

Under the artistic direction of Kathleen Belcher and music direction of Jorge Parodi, the Moores Opera Center continues to be a national leader in developing the next generation of opera talent while presenting ambitious and emotionally resonant performances to Houston audiences.

In a statement Belcher said, “This season is about transformation. We’re exploring the ways people evolve through love, heartbreak, and ultimately, the hope of redemption. These stories resonate deeply because they reflect our shared humanity.”

The season opens with the world premiere of “Hobson’s Choice” by composer Tom Cipullo. The work is inspired by the classic British play and tells the story of Maggie Hobson, a determined woman in turn-of-the-century Boston who defies her domineering father’s expectations to chart her own path.

Performance Dates: Oct. 23-26, 2025


Mozart’s “The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte)” will be performed in in German with English dialogue.

Performance Dates: Feb. 5-8, 2026


The season concludes with Carlisle Floyd’s “Slow Dusk” and “Markheim.”

Performance Dates: April 16-19, 2026
