
Montreal Chamber Music Festival to Host ‘National Indigenous People’s Day Celebration’
By David SalazarOn June 21, 2025, the Montreal Chamber Music Festival will present a “National Indigenous People’s Day Celebration.”
The showcase, set to take place at Bourgie Hall, will feature Innu soprano Élisabeth St-Gelais performing alongside Mohawk violinist Tara Louis Montour. The program includes the work premiere of Cree composer Andrew Balfour as well as the “Serenade for Strings” by Dvořák and other pieces by Debussy and Cusson.
Also performing on the program are pianist Louise Pelletier, pianist Illia Ovcharenko, and the Chaos Quartet. Spiritual Leader Kevin Deer will also host the evening.
St-Gelais has performed with Canadian Opera Company the Orchestre de l’Agora, Orchestre symphonique des Jeunes de Montréal, Orchestre I MUSICI, Orchestre symphonique de Québec, Orchestre Symphonique de la Côte-Nord, Orchestre Classique de Montréal, the Toronto Summer Music Festival, Cecilia Concerts, and Festival d’opéra de Québec.
