Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra to Present Händel’s ‘Messiah’
By David SalazarAs part of its 50th anniversary, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s (MSO) holiday season is set to feature performances of Händel’s “Messiah.”
The showcase, conducted by 18th-century specialist Nicholas McGegan, will take place on place on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 23 at 2:30 p.m.
Soloists include soprano Sherazade Panthaki, countertenor Key’mon Murrah, tenor Thomas Cooley, and bass-baritone Enrico Lagasca. They will be joined by the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus under Cheryl Frazes Hill.
“I’m thrilled to return to Milwaukee to conduct Handel’s Messiah with this wonderful orchestra and their splendid chorus,” McGegan told OperaWire. “I first visited Milwaukee in 1985 for a Bach and Handel festival — exactly 40 years ago! — and I’ve had the pleasure of working with many of these exceptional musicians ever since. Though it’s been two decades since we last performed Messiah together, the connection remains as strong as ever. Performing in their beautifully restored concert hall is always a joy, and I’m particularly excited to collaborate with this outstanding group of soloists — some of whom I’ve worked with in Milwaukee before. Messiah holds a special place in my heart, and sharing it with these artists and this audience is something I always look forward to.”
