Florentine Opera Announces 2023-24 Season & New Music Director
By David SalazarMilwaukee’s Florentine Opera has announced its 2023-24 season and its new music director.
The company revealed that Francesco Milioto will take on the new position.
“I am so excited to expand my role with the Florentine Opera to Music Director! It has felt like family since the first day and I am honored to continue serving this great city and its vibrant artistic community. Viva la Florentine,” he said in an official press statement.
The new season kicks off with “Summer Tour – Family Day at Opera Center,” which will feature a 30-minute performance of a Mozart opera by the Florentine Summer Studio Ensemble.
Performance Dates: July 16 & 22, 2023
The Florentine Summer Studio Ensemble will perform opera scenes in “Al Fresco.”
Performance Dates: July 27, 2023
The Summer Tour continues with “Mozart in the Park,” presented by Florentine Summer Studio Ensemble. There will be two performances in Delafield and another at Washington Park.
Performance Dates: August 1 – 9, 2023
Tenor Eric Ferring will present an “Al Fresco” performance.
Performance Dates: August 17, 2023
Soprano Marie-Eve Munger will get a spotlight performance.
Performance Dates: Sept. 21, 2023
Marie-Eve Munger, Andrew Stenson, Zachary Nelson, and Laura McCauley star in “The Elixir of Love.” Domenico Boyagian conducts and Brenna Corner directs.
Performance Dates: Oct. 13 & 15, 2023
There will be a “2023 Gala With a Twist” at the Bradley Symphony Center.
Performance Dates: Nov. 10, 2023
Laura McCauley, Tzytle Steinman, Jerek Fernandez, Brandan Sanchez, and pianist Fumiyasu Kawase will present “Caroling at the Fireplace.”
Performance Dates: Dec. 12, 2023
Laura McCauley, Tzytle Steinman, Jerek Fernandez, Brandan Sanchez, and pianist Fumiyasu Kawase will present “Carols and Classics.”
Performance Dates: Dec. 14, 2023
Lindsay Metzger, Aaron Short, Zachary Crowle, Tom Leighton, Brandon Sanchez, Laura McCauley, Alisa Jordheim, Tzytle Steinman, Colleen Brooks, and Jerek Fernández star in “Songbird.” Robert Mollicone conducts and Jill Anna Ponasik directs.
Performance Dates: Feb. 16 & 18, 2024
Laura McCauley, Tzytle Steinman, Jerek Fernandez, Brandan Sanchez, and pianist Fumiyasu Kawase will headline “Wanderlust,” a concert of songs about travel.
Performance Dates: March 21 & 22, 2024
There will be a spotlight event showcase tenor Chaz’men Williams-Ali.
Performance Dates: March 28, 2024
Chaz’men Williams-Ali, Michelle Johnson, and Kelebogile Besong star in “Bronzeville Bohème.” Francesco Milioto conducts and Nadja Simmonds directs.
Performance Dates: April 19 & 21, 2024
The season ends with “Maria de Buenos Aires” starring Catalina Cuervo, Blas Canedo González, and Gustavo Feulien. Pablo Zinger conducts and Tomer Zvulun directs.
