Mill City Summer Opera Announces New Opera & Artistic Director For 2019

By David Salazar

Mill City Summer Opera has announced its new artistic director to lead the company in its 2019 production of Mozart’s “Così Fan Tutte.”

Crystal Manich will take on the post, amplifying a career that has seen her direct all around the United States, Argentina, and Australia.

“Not only does Crystal have vast experience and knowledge of the operatic repertoire, but she also has a 21st century vision for creating opera productions that reflect the times we live in,” stated Karen Brooks, MCSO founder, in a press release. “Her energy and enthusiasm for opera are infectious.”

This is the latest engagement in what will be a busy 2018-19 season for Manich. She will be directing “Madama Butterfly” at Opera Columbus as well as “Hansel and Gretel” in Pittsburgh. She is also slated for Gluck’s “Paris and Helen” at the Odyssey Opera in Boston as well as a production of “Norma” at Utah Opera.

Mill City Summer Opera’s “Così” kicks off in July 2019 at the Mill City Museum Ruin Courtyard. Tickets go on sale in May 2019.
