Mikhailovsky Theatre Artistic Director Steps Down

Saint Perterburg’s Mikhailovsky Theatre has announced that Artistic Director Vladimir Kehman has stepped down from his post.

Kehman worked with the theater for almost 19 years and was appointed the theater’s General Director in May 2007 and in 2015 he took the post of Artistic Director.

In 2024, Kehman made his debut as a director on the theater stage.

The company also announced that chief conductor of the theater, Alexander Solovyev, will succeed Kehman  as acting artistic director of the Mikhailovsky Theatre.

In December 2020, Solovyev took the post of chief conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theatre, and in July 2022 he also became the Music Director of the theater. Solovyev has worked at the Grand Theater of Russia, the Center for Opera Singing by Galina Vishnevskaya and a number of orchestras. In November 2025, he was awarded the Onegin Award in the special nomination for Music Director.
