Michelle Bradley, Stephanie Blythe, Arturo Chacón-Cruz, Gihoon Kim, Pene Pati Headline San Diego Opera’s 2021-22 Season

San Diego Opera has announced its 2021-22 season.

The California-based opera company’s season will kick off with “Stephanie Blythe in Concert” at the Balboa Theatre. The mezzo will perform music from the operatic and Broadway repertoire.

Performance Date: Oct. 23, 2021

Soprano Michelle Bradley will perform at the Baker Baum Recital Hall in the Conrad Performing Arts Center. She will present a program of arias, spirituals, and art songs.

Performance Date: Nov. 20, 2021

Tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz will perform opera favorites, zarzuela, mariachi, and personal favorites at the California Center for Performing Arts in Escondido.

Performance Date: Dec. 3, 2021

The first opera production of the season will be Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” starring Reginald Smith Jr., Gihoon Kim, Konu Kim, Samantha Hankey, and Alisa Jordheim. Tim Nelson directs.

Performance Dates: Feb. 12 – 18, 2022

Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” will star Pene Pati and Kristina Mkhitaryan. Other cast members include Yunpeng Wang, Simon Kim, Sarah Coit, and Colin Ramsey. Yves Abel conducts a production by Matthew Ozawa.

Performance Dates: March 26 – April 3, 2022

Closing out the season will be “The Aging Musician,” which will be produced by Beth Morrison Projects. The showcase will star Rinde Eckert and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, both in their company debut. Julian Crouch directs with Dianne Berkun Menaker conducting, both in their San Diego Opera debuts.
