San Diego Opera is set to present “The Aging Magician,” with Beth Morrison Projects producing.

The production, which will take open on March 13, 2020 at the Balboa Theatre, will feature Rinde Eckert in his company debut as Harold. Julian Crouch will direct with Dianne Berkun Meanaker conducting; both will also be making their San Diego Opera debuts. The Brooklyn Youth Chorus will also be showcased in the performance.

The opera tells the story of Harold, a clockmaker nearing the end of his life. While working on his children’s book “The Aging Magician,” he reaches a crucial point in the story and has to make a major decision. He is then transported to a magical place where fiction and reality come together.

In addition to the opening showcase on March 13, the company will present two performances on March 14, 2020.

San Diego’s 2020 season will conclude with “The Barber of Seville” and “The Falling and the Rising.”
