Mezzo.TV to Broadcast ‘Maria Stuarda’ from Salzburg Festival with Lisette Oropesa

By Francisco Salazar

Mezzo.TV is set to present Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda” on August 1, 2025.

The opera, which will be performed in a production by Ulrich Rasche, will be conducted by Antonello Manacorda.

Lisette Oropesa will sing the title role alongside Kate Lindsey, who will portray Elisabetta, and Bekhzod Davronov as Roberto, Conte di Leicester. The cast will be rounded out by Aleksei Kulagin as Talbot and Thomas Lehman as Cecil.

Of Oropesa’s interpretation, OperaWire said, “Her sound is round and dark, and although she keeps a strong high register (up to high Ds in this role), her voice tends to be more lyrical suits the middle-centric vocal writing of the part. ”

“Maria Stuarda” opens on August 1 and is set to run through August 30, 2025.

This season, the Salzburg Festival is set to open on July 18. It will also showcase productions of “Macbeth,” “Giulio Cesare,” “Andrea Chenier,” “Mitridate,” and “One Morning Turns into an Eternity,” among others.
