Mezzo-Soprano Christine Bam Wins Major Award
By Logan MartellMezzo-soprano and Cape Town Opera chorister Christine Bam has been named the winner of the Classical Voice section of the Fine Music Radio Bursary Trust Awards Competition.
The competition, started in 2009 by the Rolf-Stephan Nussbaum Foundation, celebrates accomplishments in classical, jazz, and African music, providing artists with scholarships, bursaries, or awards to support their careers. Accompanied by Dr. Lisa Engelbrecht, Bam sang works from Massenet, Mozart, Saint-Saens, and Johann Strauss.
Earlier this year she placed 2nd at the Friends of Opera in Cape Town competition, and will appear with the company in their upcoming productions of “Tosca” and La Traviata” this fall.
“I am so grateful to FMR and the Rolf-Stephan Nussbaum Foundation for their generosity in hosting this bursary competition and supporting artists continuously and I’d also like to thank my voice teacher Violina Anguelov-Hobbs,” said Bam in an official press statement.
The Classical Instrumental and Classical Voice sections of the competition will be streamed on FMR on June 4, 2023.
